€2 Commemorative Coin Issued By Latvia Featuring Nesting Stork

On December 1st 2015, Bank of Latvia (Latvijas Bank) issued a €2 commemorative coin featuring a nesting stork on the obverse. This coin is legal tender in the Republic of Latvia and all other Euro countries and like all circulating money, it will be released to special points of sale and other enterprises and also to the general public through banks. The coin is BiAlloy with a Cupro-Nickel ring made of 75% Copper and 25% Nickel, and a Nickel-Brass centre with a fine milled edge inscribed with ‘Dievs*Sveti*Latviju’ which translates to ‘God Bless Latvia’. The obverse depicts a nesting stork in the centre, designed by Olga Šilova, with the inscription ‘Latvija’ and the year of issue below it. It is all surrounded by 12 5-armed stars. According to the Latvian Ornithological Society, about 14,000 pairs of white storks and 180 to 240 pairs of black storks are nesting in the Latvian territory now.Latest News
